Counting Down

Well, the countdown begins. Pending ABSOLUTELY NO GLICHES IN MY PROGRAM & I MEAN NOT ONE!! I will officially be "discharged" to go home on January 6th! I cannot tell you what this means to me. The next few weeks are going to be torture so anyone who can speed this up feel free to go ahead and get on it! The kids & my Mom get to go home on the 29th and Dave and I will be right behind them! Dave is currently fighting a cold so he has been sleeping in the kids bed. I am sooooo paranoid but it's yet another small miracle that I haven't gotten a cold yet.
I have begun tapering down off my prednisone which is responsible for a whole host of side effects-one being this diabetes which we all know MAKES ME CRAZY! Diabetes is torture in it's worst form. I only see my team once a week now and my blood counts are "normal"-whatever that is..... I have decided that normal will no longer exist in my world. Everyone keep the prayers coming-this is the true test. I need to get off the prednisone which is keeping my graft vs. host disease in check. A slow weining off prednisone in the hopes that this body here won't notice and just keep on healing!!!
I don't know what I would do without you guys. You keep me going. Thank you!

  1. Hi Jen -I am so happy for you. You've fought a long and brave fight and I'm sure, the worst is definitely over. Megan is right...the final cure will be the moment you step into your house in North Wales. It will bring you that peace and comfort you haven't felt for the past year. We can't wait to see you and hold you in our arms.

  3. Hey Walker Mom,
So glad to hear your good news. Get well and feel better and you will be home in no time. I am so happy for you. Sorry I haven't posted in a while - we had a scare of our own. Jessica was medivated to chop last thursday night from myocarditis - which is heart failure due to a virus or allergeic reaction. She had the H1N1 shot previous that day. They are not really sure which one caused it but she recovered in the icu at chop within 35 hours but stayed there for one week. At one point she stated how you must feel being in the hospital and going through your ordeal. She thinks of you often. Believe me - God was not ready for either of you and for that I am truly grateful and happy, my friend. Merry Christmas Jen Giorno!! Love you......

  5. That must be such sweet news to all of your ears. HOME!!! You're coming home and we can't wait to see you. You will let us know when you want company. We have sent you something to arrive on Dec. 24th. I hope you are getting Body and Soul Magazine, we'll have to let them know to send it to North Wales now. Pray we will, and are, that your body will not miss the prednisone and will continue to heal. Stay strong.
    xoxo dear friend

  7. PS-My Mom's eye is stable but a little droopy which is a new symptom. I think she goes back 2 Mondays from yesterday-I keep asking her & she tells me the when & then I forget-I guess I'll ask her again. She isn't in any pain-Thank God-she just sees what I call swirlies constantly. So annoying- & SHE NEVER COMPLAINS! She's amazing!
